More LDS members leaving than ever before

According to LDS general authority Elder Jensen, the Mormon church is losing members in greater numbers than ever before. While the church has over 14 Million members on its rolls, it is estimated that only about 5 million actively participate.

Very glad to hear it.  I would have titled it "Mormon apostasy BETTER than ever".  It's better than I expected.

It has to be due to the fact that we now have easy access to information through the internet. Its too hard to hide dirty little lies now ;)

Thanks for uploading this Mike. I didn't know how to do that.

Yes hamsonb, it is everything to do with the internet and freedom of information. Jenson admits that in the article in the link in the description on the youtube video. I was also one of those who came to know the church wasn't all it claimed to be through the internet. Maybe I would still be Mormon right now, if the information wasn't accesable.

Jenson says, ""My own daughter," he then added, "has come to me and said, 'Dad, why didn't you ever tell me that Joseph Smith was a polygamist?'" For the younger generation, Jensen acknowledged, "Everything's out there for them to consume if they want to Google it." The manuals used to teach the young church doctrine, meanwhile, are "severely outdated."

"But we may have become complacent. Don't we send out full-time missionaries? Isn't that enough? Aren't we 'the fastest growing religion'? Actually, we're not. Church growth has been falling for many years, and our current rate of missionary success is the lowest it's been for decades." Daniel C. Peterson For Mormon Times in Deseret News April 7, 2011

Yeh, the internet is a massive source for finding answers to anything anyone may have questions about. Without it you would have to try and find books or random articles or opinion pieces through microfilm archives, that would have taken some serious dedication for answers. The internet has a lot of good sources and opinions from either side of the argument and you can start finding answers very fast. It can reach anyone anywhere in the world. I'm not surprised people are leaving. The longer i spend outside the Mormon sphere the more ridiculous the whole religion seems to become. It's a shame the rest of my family are so embedded in it. For me Podcasts helped with a wealth of information.

As Grant Palmer observed, the internet is to the Mormon Church as the Gutenberg Bible was to Catholicism. My first crack came from a google search of "In Sacred Loneliness" while in a remote war zone near the border of Iraq and Iran. I had overheard another officer, who was also a mormon, talk about the book. I was a 37 year old lifelong TBM RM with a college education that did not have a clue about JS polyandry practices. One thing led to another by the simple click of the mouse, and kablam, after a few weeks, I was emotionally out, after the facts became too much to refute. It took three years back home before I could discuss everything I learned to my TBM wife (she was emotionally concerned about my inactivity and finally demanded an answer)... but once I let the cat out of the bag, and she began her own immediate research, she ran faster out of the church than I did.
