We are an online social community of former mormons, ex-mormons, ex-LDS and sympathizers. Stay C.A.L.M. - Community After Leaving Mormonism

earlier tonight, while watching Stranger than Fiction for the first time with my grandma, I had an experience that troubled me. I haven't the faintest clue why, it is so small and insignificant it hardly seems worth noting, but it has been bothering me for the last few hours and until I get it out it is going to continue to bother me and I won't get any sleep at all tonight.During the scene where Harold, the main character, is at the love interest, Ana's house, you get a brief glimpse of Ana's chandelier. it is a colorful thing, with lots of colors coming together to form a vibrant, beautiful chandelier. My Grandmother instantly made the remark "well that's an ugly chandelier". Normally I would disregard the remark and move on, but for some reason, it stuck, and I couldn't stop from thinking, 'why? how is it ugly? I think it is quite beautiful'. the answer to my question, I believe, lies in my Grandma's own choice in decorations. everything in her house that she likes, without fail, is a combination of white and gold. all the sofa's that don't fit this, she hates. all the tablecloths, hand towel, anything that doesn't fit the white and gold theme she either despises or is completely ambivalent to. anyway, glad to have vented that, if you have any thoughts, feel free to post.

Interesting post Aaron.  I've been thinking about it since it first went up, and have some thoughts written down, but I'm still not happy with them.  I know how I feel, but putting it in words is difficult.   When I am ready to post my thoughts, they will be probably be about our different tastes and the angst it can cause.
