I watched a few videos on you tube about the musical The Book of Mormon.  I think they missed the mark.  The main song is "I Believe"  The Mormons don't believe a dang thing.  They know it all.

Things I knew:

I knew I was a spirit brother of Jesus. I knew I was a spirit brother of Lucifer as well. I knew I fought on the winning side when civil war broke out in the preexistence I knew "the fall of Adam" was a good thing. I knew Mary's conception was not supernatural, but could be explained with a Ron Jeremy flick. I knew Jesus suffered for my sins in the Garden of Gethsemane. I knew Jesus turned water into grape juice. I knew Jesus had the apostles continue a burdensome law. I knew Jesus continued a priesthood. I knew Jesus had 3 wives. I knew Jesus set up a church in the North America........ I haven't even got to Joseph smith yet....

I never "knew" anything or even claimed to. I read the scripture in Alma that said (paraphrased), "Faith is NOT to have a perfect knowledge" and that comforted me, because though I believed I didn't know.

Maybe that's why I never felt completely at home among Mormons. I didn't believe in "knowing."

Someone once said to me that you should know, as clearly as you know that your hand in front of you exists, that Jesus died for you. I never had that kind of confidence and secretly wondered if everyone else was just putting up a front.

I never "knew" either.  Like Duchess, I suspect a lot know they don't know, but are putting up a front.

I also suspect a lot have fooled themselves or let themselves be fooled into thinking they know.

i think just be glad that the ridiculousness of mormonism, social evangelism, and scientology is being made public! i become so happy every time i think about the success of the BOM Musical that i am filled with near-mania--hopefully now members and potential converts will say, "oh wow, there's actually a musical mocking our belief system...huh...it must be whacko!"
