I am a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. And this website is a hurtful thing to everyone who believes in The Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith, all of the former Prophets, and most of all people who believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave His life for all of us, including all of the members on this website. All of the members on this website know deep down that this is the true church. You know it. And no matter what you do, say, or post, out Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will love you no matter what.

John 3:16-

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Chief Joseph, The bishop asked you to leave your wife?  What a sonofabitch.  And I know I try to be a liberal person, and you stated one brother a baptist, but tread lightly with the baptists.  They asked me to leave after finding out I was a liberal democrat.  And I'd been with them for 6 years, made wonderful friends, been singing in church, blah blah blah.  So it was a low blow.  And I questioned them the week they wanted all of us to pound little white crosses into the ground for all the aborted babies in town.  Shit.  I won't take you down that complex road.  Too many people have quit being my friends over my stance on that issue.  I'm just saying, mark your own path, and be careful.  If you don't want heavy dogma, try the Religious Science that was suggested, or Universalist, which I am, but still attend a ridiculously liberal Presbyterian church.  Take your time and enjoy your Sundays.  With the above named churches, you could still do whatever you wanted to do on  Sundays, or with your life, for that matter.  God, what a prick of a bishop.  Shit.  ( If you couldn't tell before, now you can.  I'm bipolar)

Chief, Get thee away from this user.  He sounds unbalanced to me, and you aren't benefiting from his ill-gotten advice.  John 3:16 is a Billy Graham button for many.  It's not a bad scripture, I just think people shouldn't be throwing stuff like that out there when they are clearly doing damage to you.

It's a book called 2 by Evan Lord. That's the web page listed at the back of the book. It's about a young Mormon boy who goes on a mission and finds spirituality in an unlikely place. No I have not read this book, just a description.

You are sure Jesus was a real person and not a constructed myth built up over time?

The first Four Gospels look like each built up the story a bit more.

Can anyone show us one bit of writing that mentions this man from when he supposedly lived?

As for Joseph Smith, PT Barnum could have taken lessons from the guy.

I wish I was a historian well versed enough to have a general feel as to whether Christ actually walked the earth or not.  I'm not.  My daughter's undergrad degree was in history, and she felt like the majority of the members of her class felt convinced from a historical degree that Christ was a real man who existed, and led the downtrodden and impoverished.  And she's a hard sell, nor is she christian.  These things are really hard to prove.  I guess it's the old faith conversation again.

"I am a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

Pride comes before the fall.

Once you realize you are being lied to, manipulated and your money fleeced to pay a bunch of fatcats you may well be singing a different tune.

Dear proudmormon, Jesus loves you, this you know. Cuz the Bible tells you so. I, on the other hand, think you are a douche bag.

I remember a stake conference speech in which my stake president said he'd recently counseled a man who had left the church and now wanted to be re-baptized. Paraphrasing here, he said "He confessed that he'd been miserable ever since the day he left the church, that it was the biggest mistake he'd ever made." I thought a lot about that speech before I made my final decision and can honestly say I've never regretted my choice. To borrow your words, proudmormon, I know deep in my heart that the church is, in fact, wrong on virtually every count - and it was while I was on my mission that I began to understand that reality.
