Welfare for Non Members

I was having a conversation with a TBM friend recently. We were talking about the church. He mentioned to me that his ward is giving out money to people who are not members of the church. He also said he is in the "Bishopric" and he knows this for a fact, because he is there late at night, on Sundays giving out money. I found this hard to believe, because I have had experiences where I have tried to get help from friends who are not members of the church. The Bishop told m they have to be…

KSL Radio

Good Morning,

I am working away at my desk, and decided to go online and listen to KSL Radio. I was listening to a report on how Internet Spammers are really hitting Utah with Spam. Ok, no big deal. Then they mentioned a name of some guy who was involved in the article and after the reporter said his name he added, "Former Mission President". All I can say is WTF does that have to do with an article on Internet Spamming in Utah? Only in Utah! I only lasted ten minutes listening to KSL… Continue

Reflections on Life

I have gone through a tremendous amount of change in the past three years. I have been reflecting this morning on how that change has affected me. I have gone through the five phases of grief, brought up old wounds from years past that have not healed, and new wounds created by my exit from Mormonism. I have determined that Mormonism is a religion based on denial. As a Mormon I tried to deny I was human. I tried to be perfect, expected and expected those around me to be perfect. Mormonism… Continue

Abuse and the Mormon Church

I read a statement that the Mormon Church made about how the local leaders handled Garn's disciplinary situation. It is interesting how they did not mention how Mr. Garn was disciplined. However, they did mentioned that the women involved, who was a young girl at the time of the abuse, that she had an extramarital affair and was excommunicated from the church. That makes my blood boil. I don't know how Mr. Garn was disciplined, however I find it sick, wrong and unfair that the Mormon Church is… Continue

Reflections of my mission president

I have been thinking for a couple minutes about my mission presidents. When I arrived in Florida, I did not care for my first mission president. His wife was very nice, but, he bothered me. I was idealistic and believed I was going to go out and serve others and love them into the church. When I arrived, we were ushered to the mission home, and told how important it was that we baptized every month. I was told that if the companionship baptized five people a month you and your companion would… Continue

Guilt Free

I am been thinking today, as I was shoveling snow today, about guilt and how much guilt I possessed as a Mormon. I felt guilty about everything. For not doing my visiting teaching earilier in the month, for not reading my scriptures often enough, not attending the temple enough. I went to the temple once a month, When I could I would go once a week. I always felt I had helped someone accept the gospel on the other side of the veil. I had my mothers work done when I joined the church, worked… Continue

Mormonism is definately a cult

I am reading "Blood of the Prophets Brigham Young and the Massacre at Mountain Meadows" by Will Bagley. This is an eye opening book. I remember when I was investigating the Mormon Church and when I was serving my mission for the Morg. I was preaching Joseph Smith as a prophet, seer and revelator. I was preaching that the Mormon church was God's only true church on the face of the whole earth. I was talking about polygamy and explaining how the men had to do it, because so many men were lost in… Continue

Just some thoughts

I was looking for a radio station in the Baltimore-Washington area to listen to online, the web site that I found had many different radio stations, one is The Mormon Channel. I could not resist listening to it for awhile. They have a program dedicated to members of the church bearing there testimonies. They of course, had a missionary couple serving in the Salt Lake area in the Real Estate department of the church. First thing, I had no idea they had missionary opportunities for people to… Continue

Friends and Mormonism

Since I have left the church, the majority of my Mormon friendships have disappeared. I am not surprised. One of my friends asked me how a returned missionary, who has gone through the temple leave the church. So, I told him. I highlighted some mormon history, lack of DNA, lack of geography, Brigham Youngs famous words about blood atonement, and the list went on. Well, I think that frightened my friend. It is hard to hear things about your faith that are not faith promoting. Especially when you… Continue

Bruce Hafen's remarks

I am saddened by Bruce Hafen's remarks this weekend at the Evergreen Conference. Several years ago, I went with a mormon friend to a few of these meetings for support for his feelings of same sex attraction. His Bishop suggested he start to attend these meetings. He did not want to go alone, I told him I would go with him. I met some wonderful people, who were struggling with same sex attraction in the mormon church. I say, struggling because Evergreen believes you can be turned from those… Continue
