Sex at Swordpoint

Somewhere in the vast heavens above (presumably, near planet Kolob) an angel is sporting fresh bus-tire treads all across his signature "loose robe of most exquisite whiteness" and exposed bosom. (see JSH!)

The only true and living church, in a series of essays, is attempting to reconstruct an uncomfortable past. This exercise has apparently less to do with honest disclosure than it does with redistributing blame.

Case in point;

Brigham and his successors have… Continue

Exmormon Foundation Conference 2013: Micah McAllister - Exit Strategy: Leaving Mormonism with your Dignity and Integrity Intact

I left the church in mid-2008 and found myself at my first ex-Mormon conference 5 years ago.  That conference stirred my enthusiasm for this community such that I started the social network Life After Mormonism.net for anyone leaving the church to find community and support in their transition out of the church.  I became very active in the online forums and became aware of the common themes and challenges almost all of us face in leaving the…

Sexual Repression, Emotional Immaturity and Mental Stagnation in Mormon Marriages

For a religion that prides itself on family values, time and togetherness, the LDS Church does a poor job preparing its rising generations for what they consider the most important institution of life and heaven, marriage.  You might say that is a bold claim, however, having been raised and indoctrinated by the LDS Church from birth through adulthood, passing through all of the rites, ordinances, classes, youth programs, mission and temple marriage traditions,…

Want your "Calling and Election made sure"? Don't hold out for Jesus to show up in person...

We've all heard this before: it's not what you know, but who you know that gets you to high places. Well it appears the Celestial Kingdom isn't much different. Below is the account of one LDS couple who in 2002 were called to a special meeting in the Preston, England temple with a few other couples to receive their 2nd Endowment, also referred to as a 2nd anointing or Calling and Election made sure. If you are not familiar with the 2nd Endowment, see D&C 132:19-20. This link is also… Continue

101 Nonpublic or Weird Beliefs of Mormons

This post is less about what the LDS church teaches publicly or in writing, and more about what is often not publicly admitted to, whether still believed or not, and about some of the crazier things Mormons come to believe when embedded in Mormon culture.  Though not categorized, some of these are doctrinal, others hearsay over the pulpit from apostles or leaders, and others adopted by more orthodox Mormons. (see also: …

This is the most powerful story I've yet read of how the church destroys lives:

Pam Kazmaier - Losing My Mind, Bit by Bit

Posted 08/13/2005

In 1985, three years after moving to Mesa, Arizona, I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was a popular church in the area. I had joined lots of churches over the years. Rather lightheartedly, I agreed to be baptized before my hospital shift. Little did…

Preserving Mixed Faith Relationships

When you first arrive to the other side of faith, or at least to an opposing side to one or more of your family, friends or acquaintances, there are a few pitfalls in which one could accidentally sabotage an otherwise desirable relationship and fellowship with them.  Hopefully by identifying those pitfalls and outlining approaches to preserving the relationship we will be aided in a more peaceful transition from having been on the same page in regards to…

***Must Read!!!***

I am a proud member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. And this website is a hurtful thing to everyone who believes in The Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith, all of the former Prophets, and most of all people who believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave His life for all of us, including all of the members on this website. All of the members on this website know deep down that this is the true church. You know it. And no matter what you do, say, or post, out Heavenly…

Reflections of my mission president

I have been thinking for a couple minutes about my mission presidents. When I arrived in Florida, I did not care for my first mission president. His wife was very nice, but, he bothered me. I was idealistic and believed I was going to go out and serve others and love them into the church. When I arrived, we were ushered to the mission home, and told how important it was that we baptized every month. I was told that if the companionship baptized five people a month you and your companion would… Continue

Heavenly Sunday

Today is Sunday. It was a wonderful day. I woke up to the sound of my five year old son’s footsteps coming towards my bedroom door. I kept my eyes closed because I know he gets a kick out of “quietly” tip toeing to my bed to whisper, “Good morning, Mom.” Then I open my eyes and see his bright blue eyes and smiling face...that is heaven.

I hear my one year old jibber jabbering away in the next room. I open her door to see her sitting in her crib having a conversation with a… Continue

The Subversive Manifesto

The Preface:

I want to be subversive. I want to undermine. I want to transform. I want to lead.

Maybe it was all the stories of my youth about the prophets that were to rise up in the last days and bring about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Maybe it was the prospect of becoming one of the missionaries that brought religion to the God-less Commies. Maybe it was the belief that there would be “one, mighty and strong” in the last days, besides Joseph Smith… Continue

X the "Ex" Prefix -- From a Grouch

I'm here, but I'm here under protest. I'm here because I think I have an audience here, more so than within the confines of the religion of my youth.

Most of what I see discussed on Exmormon sites, blogs, conferences, forums and discussions, I find boring, counterproductive and a waste of time. I don't see much point in say, dissecting point by point Conference talks, discussing whether or not polygamy is a good thing, discussing Adam/God theory, Book of Mormon historicity, and you… Continue
