I was 30 before I got married. Living in Provo and being single until 30 was really odd. One of the things I absolutely hated was what I called the three key questions. There can be more or less but usually there are three questions someone asks you when you first meet. When I lived in LA the questions were always based on money...What kind of car do you drive? What do you do for a living, (how much money do you make)? Where do you live, (again, where you live determined your net…Continue
This is my very first time posting a Blog so please be kind. :-)
i am new to the group and was filling out some info and it brought up a lot of old memories so I thought I would share some of them.
I went to High School in Provo, Utah. For those not aware of this, at the time, (not sure how it is now), if you maintained a high enough GPA then you could attend Seminary during regular school hours as if it were a normal class. You didn't get credit for it, it just…Continue
I saw "Going Clear" over the weekend and had a thought. So I wrote an e-mail to Alex Gibney, the film maker, proposing a Mormon version. The e-mail address was a general "info@" type address, so I didn't know what to expect.
Here's the e-mail:
"Dear Mr. Gibney,
Over the weekend I watched your film "Going Clear". I was stunned! I am an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as "Mormons". As…

If his heart were 'truly' in the ministry, and bringing people to salvation, he would have worked toward that end. Many men and women go into ministry to earn their livelihood, without becoming or joining a cult to do that. Why all the fanfare? Did he not believe he'd be taken seriously if he'd have simply called himself a 'Minister,' and gone about teaching the spoken word?
Instead he painted a radical fringe religion that defied the social order then, and it still would today were…Continue

Despite differences of perceptions on God and the world we inhabit, there is a distinct God found in Mormonism, than the biblical God found in the bible.
Joseph Smith's views of God were not static. According to one source, at the beginning of the LDS church his steward Oliver Cowdery addressed God as having certain attributes as found in the 1834 version of the Articles of Faith such as: "We believe that God is the same in all ages, and that it requires the same holiness,…

Growing up in a Mormon family had it's memories of fun times and as I grew older those memories became hurts. As a child you just kind of go with the flow and attend church and activities because that's, well, just what the whole family did. It's all we knew. Rehearsed prayers, rehearsed testimonies, no tv on Sunday, no coffee, no playing with non member friends, etc. As a young women in the church they teach you, or should I say brainwash you, on the next step in your lives. Go to…Continue

Making the choice to leave the Mormon church has made me realize that life has more meaning. Choices and changes don't seem that hard or that bad as once viewed in my own head when I was a member of the LDS church. “For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn't understand growth, it would look like complete destruction.” Those still in the Mormon church seem to know all…Continue
"It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell."
I'm somewhat struck this week by how widely embraced are the magical concepts woven into the fabric of Mormonism.
My siblings, in an effort to shepherd me back into the one true fold, (bless their little hearts) thought, if they could just expose me again to this magic perhaps I might just slide back under its spell.…Continue
I'm wearing fresh non-magic undies today y'all!
It was less difficult than I thought to resist the urge to pencil-in my favorite Masonic symbols and on first pass, what they lack in supernatural properties they make up by not being ratty threadbare reminders of my lack of motivation to replace them.
Sorry, if you happen to be reading this and find it resembles a non-event, which you would be right to normally classify one's changing of underwear. However please…Continue
I remember this talk and it rang so true. It made sense that the church is a temporary thing. The liars and cheats called apostles and prophets made Elder Poelman redo the talk to an empty conference center and then they edited out and replaced brainwashing ideas from their Big Brother message into the Ensign and archives. For me I am sure that my brain latched onto the original…Continue

Do you remember that children's story "The Emperor's New Clothes", where the swindlers tricked the emperor and everyone in the village into saying they saw the fictional fabric? Everyone, including the emperor himself, was so afraid of looking like a dumb-ass that they all went along with what everybody else said they saw. "Oh yes, such beautiful fabric!" In reality they were ALL idiots, because not a single solitary one of them ever bothered to speak their minds when they…Continue
