Boy, question a fundamentalist and wow, somehow you wanted a pissing match!!  Point proved!  Ye need not fear, I said the magic words years ago, so I could then go on shitting and crapping on whomever online whenever I choose, and still get the glory.  How marvelous.  But all kidding aside, ahem, a little research into Greek and Hebrew, languages used in writing the original Old and New Testaments, leads us to some simple conclusions in what words mean.  And who translated them.  I won't bore you with too many examples, because I know that can be hairy and difficult, so I'll pull out of my brain one or two.  2 Pet, if I'm not mistaken, when using hell, it would have been tartarus in Greek, or the dark abyss.  Christ spoke often of Gehenna, which is God's refining yet merciful judgment.  Nowhere in Greek and Hebrew translations does the Bible say God will punish forever.  This is simply a mistranslation, from Rome.  Greek OT texts us aion 128 times, meaning either a long period that begins and ends, or, forever.  Sheol is the pit.  Hades is the grave. Aion and Aionios in Greek are used as an age has come to destruction.  Owlam in Hebrew was referenced 439 times in the OT, meaning age lasting.  These kinds of studies have fascinated me during my journey into Christianity, as I found most churches very limited in their knowledge of exactly who translated their Bibles, namely Rome, and how much fear is used in church when it isn't used, in that manner, in the Bible.  I'm not pissing with you, or putting you down.  Your kind have done a good enough job of doing that to me for years, and thankfully, I've moved on to a better place, just for me.  My husband, who was always a Christian, never a mormon, is still somewhat pissed off because of what he has really learned about original language usage, and how he was taught in his Christian upbringing.
