Is anyone familiar with Ina Coolbrith? She was Don Carlos Smith's daughter (Joseph's niece then stepdaughter), became Poet Laureate of California and most likely had an affair with Samuel Clemens.…Continue

Joseph Smith and the Moon People?

Has anyone heard about Joseph Smith Jr. believing in another lost tribe that had found it's way to the moon? Apparently they lived to be over 1000 years old and Joseph Smith Sr., while church…Continue

The "Lds missionaries" page on Facebook wants YOU

If you don't enjoy or see any value in silly debates please disregard this post. The Lds missionaries page (115,260+ "likes") has been overtaken by "christians" who are just being jerks. "Your [sic] not real Christians!""Yes-huh!""Nu-uh, because you worship Joe Smith""No we don't... kinda!""Your [sic] going to HELL!""Oh yeah? Well you're not going to have a fullness of joy, so there."and so on... I couldn't help myself and threw some logic into the mix which was not received well by the bible…See More

Profile Information

Relationship Status (single, partner, etc):
In Love
My Story:
I am a sixth generation (decedent of Ralph Smith & Orville S. Cox respectively) mormon from Boise, ID and served a mission in Boston, MA under presidents Murphy & Jensen. While attending BYU-Hawaii I began to realize how my perception of god was warping my understanding of the world. As a history major in the south pacific, I couldn't avoid learning about the multiple genocides of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It is shocking how the christain faith was repeatedly used as an excuse for actions that were clearly greed based.

After a couple dark years I slowly learned that the "still small voice" is here, I can trust it and I've always been the author of it. The world is a complicated and beautiful place which we are compelled to discover for ourselves. I was told recently that I could be happy, but would never find "a fullness of joy" without the gospel, I remember that mindset... There is no joy like the freedom to think for yourself! There is never peace in a lie. For the first time in my life, I LOVE my life and am so thankful to those who helped me get here.
Interests and Hobbies:
I love cooking food that tastes wonderful and heals us. My boyfriend and I have a mini urban farm near downtown Durham, NC and are very involved in the local food movement. Our bees, egg laying ducks, geese, Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats and other assorted critters are an endless source of entertainment. We are also getting serious about planting heirloom and rare fruit trees, berry bushes and perennial vegetables. Medlars are a revelation in their own right!
Favorite Books:
Jitterbug Perfume, 1984, On Language (Noam Chomsky), Goat Song, The Things They Carried, Mark Twain's Letters from Hawaii, Food Not Lawns, The Encyclopedia of Country Living... and of course Pride & Prejudice because I'm a girl.
Favorite Movies:
Adaptation, Stranger than Fiction, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Talladega Nights, The Philadelphia Story, His Girl Friday, Wild Strawberries, The Big Lebowski, Fight Club and just about any social/environmental/arts documentary.
Favorite activity after mormonism?
Being Honest & Homebrewing

I'm not sure what I have in mind yet, I was waiting to see what kind of interest there was first, and there seems to be more than I thought. I might take you up on co-hosting at your house since you're more centrally located for the Greensboro folks as compared to Apex. I'm open to both family friendly and strictly recovering ex-mos. We can play it by ear. I'd love to plan something for May if we can. I can put some ideas together and get planning. Thanks for responding. I do want to see your goats. I'm a bit of a food activist myself, as well as passionate about the environment. I can't wait to meet you.

You're close and you're a girl. I wanna start a support group. Interested? BTW, I was in Boston when you were serving your mission. I was in the Lynnfield Ward from 1997-2000 and Methuen from 2000-2002. Now I'm living in the shadow of the Raleigh Temple, almost literally (seriously, it's two miles away). I am also passionate about sustainable living. Have you been on the Larry's Beans tour in Raleigh? It's a must do while you live here.

Welcome TeAnna!  I've very much into supporting sustainability too!  Have you seen Zeitgeist: Moving Forward?  I think you'd like it if you haven't already.  Thanks for joining.  Enjoy the site and community.
