Skepticat replied to Beth P's discussion My ex wants to baptize my daughter
"When my son was nearing eight yearsold, after pressure from his friends and his grandparents, I asked my son what he wanted to do. He said "be baptised". When I started the discussion about what baptism is, my son replied that since it…"

Skepticat replied to MikeUtah's discussion Help with TBMs
"As an oldster I find myself sounding quite "stuffed-shirt" when talking to my grandkids and it's certainly not from being Mormon or any other religious viewpoint. All the texting, poor grammar and such drives me nutty and I think I…"

Skepticat replied to MikeUtah's discussion Help with TBMs
"My instant reaction to reading this story was more of a generational gap type of thing than a TBM or judgemental thing. Most elderly parents would prefer not to hear of bodily function type referrences. They used to be so taboo no matter what the…"

Bill Maher exposes Mormon religion

"And they claim to be the fastest growing religion? There are some seriously demented people in this world!"

Skepticat commented on Cali Murphy's blog post I Was the Poster Child for the Perfect Mormon Girl
"I'm sure it feels very lonley. You were suffocated with "calls" because you performed so well and they loved that, I'm sure. Lonleiness brings many back to "the fold". They find they cannot just cut off that core of…"

Skepticat replied to MikeUtah's discussion How consistent is your belief or understanding of God?
"I think the point is that if one required substantial evidence to backup a belief in God, then you are allowing for the small possibility that a God exists. That's why I got through the test unscathed. I'm a pretty good test taker.. LOL!"

Skepticat replied to MikeUtah's discussion Dear God
"I laughed all the way through this and wished I had the nerve to send it to all my religious friends. However, if they had the brains to undertand this in the proper light, they wouldn't be religious in the first place, would they?"

Skepticat replied to MikeUtah's discussion How consistent is your belief or understanding of God?
"Some are perfectly comfortable with a belief of some sort of god. Some accept evolution and god also. Only a few, like myself that have no belief in any god or hereafter (life after death) are the ones that would score a medal of honour on the test…"

Profile Information

Relationship Status (single, partner, etc):
My Story:
Still on the membership rolls but parted with "the church" when I was 9. Am I still eligible for this site??? I've been "apart" from the church so long that I only consider myself an ex-mormon when I'm around relatives.
I'm also a three time cancer survivor, a published poet as of March 3, 2009 (watch for the Chicken Soup for the Soul, Cancer Book. I've been published before but not in anything recognizable), a high scool graduate as of 2000 (about 35 years late), the state president of Utah Mensa, mobile notary and a few more.

I've been asked a few times, not right out straight but asked, none the less, if I'm more inclined to go back to believing in a "hereafter" now that my cancer is back again. Do I "feel any closer to God"? No. Not a bit. the only thing it has changed is my daily and weekly schedule around chemotherapy treatments and doctor appointments. My beliefs remain the same.
Interests and Hobbies:
Oh, my! Well, cats, science, art, law, Mensa, property, fair housing, writing, Atheism, studying the brain, functions and interactions as it processes information and affects personalities, especially in the interactions of humans and animals, medicine, breast cancer, spinal metastasis and following research on cancer and it's many ways of catching us off guard.
Favorite Books:
One Nation Under God by Vincent Wales, Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, randy by Earnest Knobbs
Favorite Movies:
The original Manchurian Candidate and Paperchase, Beautiful Mind, Don Juan de Marco, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe, Fort Apache the Bronx, Julie & Julia.
Favorite activity after mormonism?
Meeting and interacting with many people exploring different lines of thought and opinions.

Jon, I checked out one site I found on a search and no, I do not post on that site! Guaranteed!!! I just watched a supposed satire on pedophile priests and it was sick! Not only that, but I have different beliefs on the priest situation. Skeptigator and Skepticat are two different people that have never even met.

On most other sites I have a different name, Logicat. That is the one I use the most.

Jon, I don't think that's me. That name doesn't sound familiar. I'll nave to check it out. Is Friendly Atheist what it's called?

You asked about the whole Prop. 8 business... it's important to know that it was the California State Supreme Court that ruled that banning same sex marriage violated the state constitution. Prop 8 is an amendment to the state constitution. I'm sure it will end up coming before the US Supreme Court which currently isn't too gay friendly.

Glad to see other cat lovers on here. My wife and I are also cat lovers. We have two cats, one indoor and the other outdoor (they don't get along). Sometimes dog owners tell us that dogs are better because they show more love. I just pass it off as ignorance as cats are just as loveable.
