Are all missionaries as persistant as the ones I have come across recently? A number of times the same pair have stopped me in the street, they don't seem to take no for an answer! Sometimes I can…Continue

"It is actually kind of shocking to me that this is happening only now in Utah. I was baptized in 1998, and here in Canada we were cleaning our own church buildings then. Members volunteer to clean the temples here, too."

"Yeah, sucks to be laid off from a church since they aren't required and usually don't pay into unemployment insurance.  I feel bad for those being let go.  Hopefully they at least get some sort of severance package."

Recession hits LDS jobs.

The recession appears to be having an impact on employees of the church. I was informed a few days ago that all paid employees in the branch of the church my family attends have now been laid off and a rota has been made with a request that people add their names to it. As if they didnt demand enough time from their members already. You can bet all those laid off didn't get redundancy pay and if they did I bet tithing was paid on it!!!!!!

"Great suggestions! I think it's healthy to address such experiences with some play and fun. It's been a long time since I was stopped by missionaries...perhaps some body art (tattoos and scarification) may have something to do with it..."

"That's awesome! I should make something like that for "Life After Mormonism" and it would both work to scare mishies away and also pass the good word along that we're here for those looking."

My Story:
I was dragged to the Mormon church by my mother who doesn't actually know what the church is about, she just used it as an emotional crutch because she has nothing else in her life. She has made life hell for my five brothers and sisters too. I am very happily married to my husband, we have three children and have nothing to do with my mother, she lives in the same village as us and has chosen to make the church and it's members her priority. My son once told me he couldn't remember what grandma looked like, he hadn't seen her for over a year, I think that just about sums her up!
Favorite activity after mormonism?
Drinking alcohol, laying in bed on a Sunday morning, being myself rather than what people expect me to be!
