I have been recovering since 2003. I was baptized in the church at age 8, was raised in the church going between "active" and "non-active". I went on a mission from 1996-98 in Alabama and Mississippi, was married in the temple in 2000.
I never really fit into the church structure during my life, especially while on my mission. After I was married things just kept going south, so to speak. I continued to distance myself from the members of the church and this caused a lot of problems as I was not like other members and would not play the political games. I refused to play the "do as I say, not as I do" games that are the basis of the ward structure. I finally just stopped going.
After my divorce, I made my split with the church official. I'm still dealing with them on this issue, but it should be done soon and I can finally get this chapter in my life closed.
I am now a happy and guilt free person with an opinion and free will to act on my own.
