"Great stuff, MikeUtah! I've been out of the LDS organization for 25 years now and, after a subsequent marriage to an alcoholic (not my current spouse), have been a grateful member of AlAnon and, therefore, working the famous "12…"
"Um... that makes no more sense than the LDS paradigm. You've simply changed kool-aid flavors. The bible as the infallible word of god himself is as silly a notion as anything that JS ever came up with. Mythology.…"
Already active as a professional musician at age 17. Fell in love with an LDS girl at age 19, joined up (1974), LDS girl broke up with me, but I was in. Mission to Germany from '76 to '78. Met & married my LDS Stepford wife within 4 months of return, SLC temple. 4 daughters (only one remains 100% active in the church, another one resigned officially.) In my early 30's the realities of my life and career did not seem to sync up with church teachings. After 14 years as a convert, at age 33, in 1988, I misbehaved and was excommunicated. And divorced. When I received my letter of excommunication, as I read it, it felt as though a great fog were lifting from me. I've been out for 25 glorious, fun years, playing music at a high level and, after a couple of not-so-great marriages, married not the "woman of my dreams" but the "woman of my reality". No fireworks when we met... more like a gentle tide coming in.
If you went on an LDS mission, where and when did you go?
