The book of mormon takes exerpts and characters from a romantic fictional novel called paradise lost, paradise regained written by professor Anton in the early part of the 19th century. Characters like Nephi, Omni, Maroni, and others come from this book which is about Indian's in early America. It is my personal belief that Sidney Rigdon had more to do with perpetrating the hoax than did Joseph Smith.
