Who Was Jesus
Defining who Jesus was is problematic and complex. Thousands of religious devotees, antagonists and scholars have weighed in over the centuries on the subject. Jesus has to be understood on two levels, theologically and historically. What’s with Cupid? If it brings in the $ to keep the site running I am for it. But it may give fodder to the TBM's that consider us immoral. But I do not care what they will think.
Idaho Spud said… Dan, as your have a BA in Biblical Studies, perhaps you can satiate my curiosity about the "Coat of Many Colors" that Jacob gave Joseph. I used to attend Church Education Week every year and one speaker said that phrase translated to "Coat of Pieces", but was changed because they didn't know what it meant. He said the Coat of Pieces was the coat of authority as leader of the Bedouin tribe. It was so called because it had long sleeves made of many pieces. That's why Joseph was hated by his brothers so much, because Jacob gave Joseph the leadership of the tribe rather than the eldest son.
I've never heard that from any one else in the church. Have you? The story of Joseph may be fabrication, but do you know if the Bedouins had a coat of authority like that?
