Profile Information

About Me:
Born and raised Mormon, temple married, 2 babies and everything is going along swimmingly. Then I decide to start really thinking about what I was being taught in church. That was 25 yrs ago and the beginning of the end.

I'm still married to a Mormon with a vast Mormon family. It never gets easier. I will be warmly invited to the 7th temple wedding in 7 years this December and then made to wait outside until it's over. Only an ex-Mormon would know what a surreal life this is.

reading, photography, reading, long-distance cycling, reading, gardening/hoticulture/everything plants, reading, hiking, thinking...
Favorite Books:
To have a favorite book is to confess that one reads so little that a single title stands above the few! I'm an avid reader across the spectrum of genres. But here are a few I've read recently and especially like:

Arguably - Hitchens
Jesus Interrupted - Ehrman
The Portable Atheist - Hitchens
The Art of Living - Epictetus <--scripture is never this lovely
Bel Canto - Patchett
Lying - Harris <--succint, compelling
The Believing Brain - Shermer
Atheist Manifesto - Onfray <--beautifully written!
Letter to a Christian Nation - Harris
Sex at Dawn - Ryan <--dangerous
Night - Weisel

Hi Cora, thank you for the comment.  We do not have any children yet.  But I struggle with idea of them being raised in the church.  I see split faith families let the TBM partner take the kids to church with them.  I don't know how I feel when I think of it as lying to my children when I know the truth.  I can't imagine how I'll react when my child comes home and says I know the church is true!!!!! How scary that would be.

Stop by as often as you'd like.  The chat room is also a fun place to hang out, more so in the evenings.

Yes, we all have a story.  I haven't written mine yet, but yours resonated with me in several places.  Especially when you talked about more & more & more never being enough, never hearing the spirit for sure, and never again surrendering any part of your ability to think and study freely about a thing and draw your own conclusions.

It's sad how your mother treated you, but heartening to hear of your optimism.

Perhaps you could post it here on exit-stories:
