It was so much harder than I thought it would be. I didn’t train enough, or, more than likely, drank too much beer. I was sleep-deprived and dehydrated when I started. My slow pace along with the charley horses I developed in both legs half way through was upsetting. I didn’t know if I would finish. I kept moving my stiff legs, and, before I knew it, it was over. And it was sweeter than I imagined! Yeah, I cried. From being a perpetual last-place finisher in the mile run in Jr. High to a marathon finisher…
I just realized something. I completed a marathon while NOT following the word of wisdom. It’s important to eat properly and get enough sleep, which I didn’t do. The main point here is, I didn’t keep “the church’s” commandments and I was blessed. I didn’t even pray for strength. One may say I could have done better had I kept the WOW, but, to me, it’s apparent that I performed as well as I trained. It’s that simple.
