Thank you for visiting Investigating Mormonism, a growing index of online resources and books discussing various sides of LDS topics and history. Links and resources are indexed by topic as seen in the lower right side of the page. Topic links are further categorized as either LDS Friendly for those links authored by the LDS Church or active members, and Faith Challenging for links that may reveal less known facts or criticisms that could challenge one’s testimony (from both LDS and non-LDS authors). Below are some encouraging quotes from LDS leaders on investigating LDS origins and theology.
“Well, we have nothing to hide. Our history is an open book. They may find what they are looking for, but the fact is the history of the church is clear and open and leads to faith and strength and virtues.” – Gordon B. Hinckley
“If we have truth, it cannot be harmed by investigation. If we have not truth, it ought to be harmed.” – President J. Reuben Clark Jr.
“If a faith will not bear to be investigated; if its preachers and professors are afraid to have it examined, their foundation must be very weak.” – George Albert Smith: Journal of Discourses, Volume 14, Page 216
Why Investigating Mormonism?
Whether you are investigating Mormonism from the standpoint of active Mormon, non-member, or somewhere in between, the more information you can get in front of you, the more informed your decision regarding your beliefs, whether for or against, and thus resolve the discomfort of uncertainty and doubt. Do not let fear get in the way of resolving your doubts. As Thomas Paine well stated, "It is error only, and not truth, that shrinks from inquiry."
This site lays out resources and links on both sides of the debate regarding many controversial topics surrounding Mormonism, from The 1st Vision to Mountain Meadows Massacre. We are in the construction stage and so not all resources have been laid out yet. Please check back often for updates.
