I like this link about exiting Mormonism, you may find it useful
Also, remember the 5 stages of grief. I am really so sorry that you left your friend sobbing. It truly is gut wrenching to see a friend sobbing. I became aware when I was leaving of how the LDS Church doesnt allow for individualiztion or for you to individuate. Your life is interconnected with others for enternal salvation and in order to see each other in heaven .... and so on. The Church can talk about free agency but they really dont allow you to individuate with out resistance. I cant imagine your friend sobbing if you said you were changing careers from accountant to librarian or that you were eating organically. It really sucks, I've been there and I'm super sorry.
Cathy if you add me as a friend I will send you a private message. I have close friends in San Diego that get together. None of them are on Life After Mormonism but I can get you some emails and they can let you know the next get together. I have gone out with them, one is a close girl friend. Yes, figuring out each site takes time. I am also happy to chat anytime but San Diego is closer and proximity is great! Best wishes with your transition and exit!
Pixie - I just posted to you. Now I see how to post here. I have decided to leave after 30 years as a staunch and faithful member. I went to the temple with my best friend three weeks ago and told her I couldn't go the next two weeks. I told her today what I am doing and that I won't be going to the temple anymore. She took it hard and I left her sobbing. This is so hard! But the information I found turned me around suddenly and threw me for a loop. It's not true after all!
I would like to meet up with some of you in SD. I am still trying to figure out this site and how to post so everyone can see.
Are you new to LAM? I've been here at least a year. Pretty much any of us will help you in any way we can...just ask! What would you like to talk about? If you need privacy, feel free to PM (private message) me or anyone you're comfortable with. And don't hesitate to pop in to our Chat room...open 24/7! Looking forward to hearing from you!
