Totally true Don....

The mormon church is not so much about how to live a christian life and honour God as to praise the Prophet, put down all other religions and hail the priesthood and the rest of them .....

And women always in the back ....following their priesthood leaders and sacrificing everything for them .

Surely, it sucks ........

Really ... if i chose ... i would live with a mainstream christianity environment .... not the fundamentalist kind ..... the soft kind;;;

Because i understand them and they dont threaten my way of life and thinking ..... and we share the same educational background.

Mormonism is definitely out of the picture ..... w

Funny story, ... an old Companion and I were both Catholic on our Missions. We returned to the Catholic Church, families and all! What a hoot!

Very interesting. I live in Las Vegas. I log into my system in Memphis, TN. and post from that.
The LDS were so goofy to me. I can see and think, and can tell when people are bending and stretching words to fit their own ends. The cloddishness and "I am special and inspired" was beyond belief. If you were not one of the inspired people, well, then you need to pray. it drove me nuts. But, since I converted to their faith at the time I felt that this was a transitional phase for me. Little did I know that they were goofy just as I was feeling.
Everyone in our family joined, and we all left later due to them. I have always felt a stronger bond to the RC than the LDS just because the RC did not insult my intelligence and call a circle a square and a triangle a cone. I could see that this Church building had been around 200 or so years and had Latin all over it. So, I felt better inside it. Add to it my memories and it was great!

How strong is the LDS Church there? Do a lot join then drop off? Just curious.

Hiya Don,

Well, I'm from East Lancashire in England. I was born into the Roman Catholic church and swung from active to inactive during my youth..parents never forced me or my brother and sister to attend church, but school tried to, lol. I used to enjoy going when I was around 6 years old, as my sister was part of the choir then..I think my brother may have been too, as he was asked to do a solo at somebody's wedding a couple of years later. I used to enjoy messing around in the choirbox. I didn't attend my RC school all the time, I was ill and so attended a 'special' school from age 6-9, so my RC highlights: First confession/Holy Communion, were taken with my ex schoolfriends, but as a guest. I was given the instruction for these sacraments in a separate evening lesson by the nun who was the head of our infant school. Maybe this one to one teaching made religion more fun and special for me at that time? I was taken to Lourdes as part of a pilgrimage when I was 10, which I loved, and we attended lots of masses there, as well as going thru the waters and visiting St. Bernadette's home, and following the torchlight procession..you can imagine the effect all of this had on my young mind. I returned home full of the religious experience I just had, and with my little book all about St Bernadette. I recall being teased a little about being so religious at this time, lol. Within a year or so, the excitement had worn off, however, and I began to attend church less regularly, and became more sceptical too. By the time I was in my teens I'd read lots about the LDS church from my Osmonds' World mags, and was intrigued by it. I began investigating and attended Sacrament Meetings weekly, in secret. I preferred the services because it was just normal people stating how they felt or what they believed in, rather than a priest, remote, just reading from the Gospel and saying things in the Homily which I didn't really get at that time. Everything was so simple with the LDS church. I quickly replaced my RC religion with it, and remained an investigator for the next 4 years. I wasn't brave enough to take the final 'plunge' and get baptised tho, and stopped attending any church at age 18. When I was married and had kids, I partially resumed attending the RCC, as the kids were baptised and attending RC schools. Eventually, ater they'd left school, and I'd been divorced for 10 years, I gave the LDS church another go...you know most of the rest of my story, I think :)

I never felt all that comfortable in the hospital look of the LDS Chapels. I missed the architecture, the Stations of the Cross, and the reverence given to the Host. Instead I found a constant drum beat for The Church, Joseph Smith, the First Presidency, the Prophet....... I also notied thought controll and programming.
Why did I return to my Catholic faith? Salt Lake drove me to it!
