MormonBeliefs.org does a pretty good job presenting the official beliefs or doctrines of the LDS church, which is a nice presentation to lure unsuspecting investigators over to their thinking via a "milk before meat" approach so as to ease new investigators ever so subtly into the weird or ultra conservative beliefs that are learned or discovered once a confirmed member, and which would otherwise scare most investigators away. Let's take this thread and turn it into a compiled list of unwritten or less publicized mormon beliefs and cultural expectations so as to arm unsuspecting investigators from being tricked into buying undesirable"meat". I'll continually update this main post with all the varying beliefs we come up with from our own experience and time in Mormonism. If beliefs you add stem from official doctrine or leaders, please include a source reference. You may also include brief descriptions that expound how particular beliefs play out in Mormon culture. Not all of these are followed or believed by all active Mormons, but are often used as a gauge by the more self-righteous Mormons to judge the righteousness of others.
More to come as we compile this list from our experiences as Mormons...(Last Updated: 9/1/2011)
You shouldn't give a member of the opposite sex a massage because it allows you to become comfortable touching people, and before you know it you are having sex. Also, if you MUST touch a member of the opposite sex, you should never touch them in a place that a modest swimsuit would cover.
Avoid being alone in a room with the opposite sex (bishop in his office is exempt, of course).
At least one priesthood leader said we should not ride alone in a car with someone of the opposite sex.
We were openly taught in high-school seminary that polygamy is still God's law, and that it is practiced in the afterlife and a requirement for Exaltation in the Celestial Kingdom, with all the patriarchal BS and misogyny that implies. Even modern, Corporate American Assimilated Mormons are simply required to follow the "law of the land" until the prophet says it's ok to come out of hiding and start rounding up yer mares. My dad is still "sealed" to 3 of his ex-wives (married and divorced at different times, not all at once) even though he bailed on the cult a few years ago himself. My mom keeps beating herself up about her difficulty in securing a temple divorce. I keep telling her it's all a big load of horseshit, and to just realize it for what it is- meaningless, superstitious crap- and to please just move on with her life. They were divorced 30 years ago ferchrissakes!
Polygamy is so horrible and detrimental to women and good marriages....... I am glad i have found this website because one thing is sure i will never return to the mormon church ..... the sexism,, the all male authority and power, the subservience, submissiveness and silencing of women is contrary to my sense of dignity as a woman and opposite to what true love and good marriage represents to me.
No way i would have wanted to become a baby producer or one among men's multiple godesses whether in this life or in the after life ...
Mormonism is for the glory of man and its lust and the misery and sorrow of women
It also became obvious to me when I was told my daughter couldn't be a girl scout... Can't learn to live off the land...Just a bunch of BS to keep a woman down... I absolutely hate this cult and I watch my own mother quietly even like secretly reading doctrine to her... Pisses Me OFF They also teach that if the parents are inactive or non members that it is the responsibility of all family members to see to the kids adherence... causes a world of sh*t in my house I'll tell ya
I am a really good guy, I really am I don't need anyone underminding my authority to my child... I love her always and will never let her down they just think I'm evil tho cause my names removed so they teach her I'm wrong... What do you think this does to her? It will make her doubt my judgement all her life maybe... but thats how they are... always right... Good Luck whatever road you follow
D & C 89:17 says beer is o.k. (What other drink do you make from grain?)
Mild drinks of barley... that explains why beer here is so weak. Don't forget The Word of Wisdom also allows us to use "herbs of every kind". I see no exceptions there. Looks like cannabis is fair game.
as long is you drink it cold.
Isn't Sake made from rice?
7. We are all going to gather in Missouri in the last days before Jesus comes down from the sky.
8. The Garden of Eden is in Missouri.
I also find some things that are specifically said in scripture but are being pushed out of discussion as quick as possible.
