Sister H, I baptize you for and in behalf of Anne Frank, who is dead....

Okay.

So there church is putting out a statement saying under no circumstances should the names of dead celebrities, or victims of the holocaust, be submitted for post-humous conversion efforts.

While this makes me happy (you know, the Jews died because they were Jewish), I have a hard time believing the church is genuine in this. What is the reasoning, from the point of view of the Morg? Do they think that all victims of genocide / mass homicide go straight to the Celestial kingdom? Or are they secretly pissed that this group of dead souls will never get to know the truth? Would they keep baptizing dead Jews if no one was complaining about it?

Seriously. What are your thoughts? I'm trying to wrap my head around what's really going on here....

The beauty behind this statement by the COB is that it exposes to the members themselves, as well as outsiders, the hypocrisy and primary concern they have about their image over doctrine or the salvation of souls.  It shows that they are more concerned with being accepted through their carefully crafted public image than they are about preserving the peculiarities they were so proud of just a few decades ago.  Ever since the great PR man Gordon B Hinckley got into the first presidency, the shift towards a clean, christian outward public image was gradually built up to the huge PR campaigns they now run.  Hail the internet gods for making their hypocrisy ever more transparent.

I agree, their hypocricy is funny to me. Basically what they are saying is, "let those people go to a lesser kingdom so our PR campaign can gain momentum!" Pathetic excuse of a religion. It is more a corporation that has slaves for workers who think they are working for God

I have heard Mormons say that they will all be baptized sooner or later. So the church will get them, just later, possibly in the much anticipated "millennium".
