Hurray!!!  What a landmark day this is!  Though the war is not over, this is certainly an important battle that was won today.  Here's the full ruling at this link: http://www.scribd.com/doc/35374462/Prop-8-Ruling-FINAL

Conclusion:

"Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. ... Because California has no interest in discriminating against gay men and lesbians, and because Proposition 8 prevents California from fulfilling its constitutional obligation to provide marriages on an equal basis, the court concludes that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional."

Eat that, you robots who gave your life savings to "protect marriage"!
They might as well have bought cigarettes, lit them and watched them go up in smoke; what a waste of moula.

Tyrants - 365 wins v Victims - 3 victories; ending polygamy, overcoming racism, showing up bigotry.

Come on our team; we are gaining momentum.
Yes, rationality and reason have prevailed for the moment. Judge Walker's ruling is so thought-full and considerate of every possible argument, that one wonders how his ruling could possibly be touched. In some ways, the Mormon Church has done us a favor by being so single-minded in its discrimination against and its ignorance about same-sex marriage that it, the Church, has exposed the emptiness of the argument against same-sex marriage.
Very well said, DeAnn. I agree, overall the Mormon Church did the Gay and Lesbian community a favor by blatantly objecting to civil rights based on their ever changing doctrine. Does the church not know they are perceived as wachos by the rest of the nation?

Amen to that DeAnn!
When I was little we had Segregation in the South. How do we view the people that supported it now. Salt Lake will have to wear this forever.

Prop 8, even if not unconstitutional, is wrong on moral grounds. It is wrong to treat people different than others. If Gays and Lesbians are married it will have no effect on my marriage. Just their lack of marriage does not make me "more" married now.
It is also mud in the face of Salt Lake. For the courts to say that the issues that the Mormons were pushing to be unconstitutional has to be embarrassing to say the least to Salt Lake.

Sad Salt Lake Old Dues, very Sad!!

Don
Cross your fingers that this holds up through the years of legal battles to come. Great day indeed, but a long road ahead.
Here in that great state of California, the left coast, it is a good day.

Prop H8 backed by some church based in Utah has lost the first round and
it looks like the judge really hammered the bigots hard.

Let's hope that it keeps going.

Do you think that the church is afraid of the county allowing polygamy?
That would really make a mess of the doctrine. You can't get to heaven without it.

I have noticed that every single TBM on my facebook account has not said one fucking word about Prop 8. Yet it seems all my postmo/exmo FB friends have been very vocal. I love that my Exmo friends are out numbering my TBM friends...I think my life is transitioning away from the LDS church. Yes my dears, it rocks to be me.
Its just a shame that, with so many other issues and needs in this country (businesses and wildlife suffering from the oil-spill, education, childrens' health, etc), they decided to dump so much money into their fixation on "keeping the gays from marrying". Unbelievable.
