With the US National July 4th Independence Day celebration occurring this weekend, I just wanted to send you my wishes to not only enjoy our national freedoms and independence, but also the independence of mind that we declared upon our individual exits from Mormonism, be it physical, emotional, mental, spiritual or any combination thereof. For myself, I remember well the euphoria and exhilaration experienced upon waking up to the myth and opening my eyes to the grander reality of our world.
It is my belief that our experiences in Mormonism, and coming to terms with a mind controlling paradigm, has given us a unique perspective, shared with those who have left similarly abusive organizations, of what it means to own our minds. For this we can be grateful. As the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche well stated, "The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."I hope you'll join me in expressing gratitude for our freed minds this Independence Day and send ripples of that gratitude to all within your circles via the respect for diversity and individual freedoms that life affords us.
Life After Mormonism continues to expand by new users joining every week. I'd like to remind everyone that each Friday night many of us gather in the chat room for friendly and sometimes laugh-out-loud fun and "evil speaking". The party starts as early as 6pm MST and sometimes goes into the wee hours of the morning so feel free to join in anytime during your evening if you so desire.
Thanks for being a part of our lives after Mormonism.
