Event Description

Last time just wasn't let's do it again!
On Saturday, August 27th, us exmo's will cause Big Trouble in Little Tokyo! We will meet in front of the Japanese American National Museum at 3:00pm. For those who attended the tour on June 25th, you know right where it is. For those that did not, google is your friend. Admission to the museum is $9.00. For those who speed through the museum and want to explore other parts of Little Tokyo, there is the Japanese Village Plaza a few steps away, and Weller Court (with the highly recommended Kinokuniya bookstore) just a few more steps away.
After boning up on our Japanese American history and culture, we will all go eat...döner kebabs!Spitz is the home of the döner kebab and is located in Little Tokyo. If you have never eaten a döner kebab, picture it like the ambitious cousin of a Greek gyro. They are very good. Themenu also includes salads, sides, falafel, drinks, desserts, and if you are really blown away you can even buy your very own Spitz t-shirt.
For those who can't make it to the museum at 3:00pm, we will be at Spitz to eat at 5:30pm. Between culture, food, and most importantly, the camaraderie of fellow Postmo's, it's gonna be a blast.
Please let me know if you plan to attend so I can be sure and make a reservation for the appropriate number of people at Spitz.

Our event is about to get even better. I love Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. It's one of my favorite places. The spirit testified to me that pretty much everyone who will be coming on August 27th has not had the opportunity to explore Little Tokyo in detail recently, if ever. To cure this unfortunate malady, there will be an activity that will help everyone explore the cool and intereting depths of Little Tokyo. Call me a missionary for Little Tokyo, because it's true.

We will be meeting at the same time and place, 3:00pm at the museum, and visiting the museum just the same.

Around 4:30pm we will start the next activity, which is a Little Tokyo Photo Scavenger Hunt Extravaganza.

For those who wish to participate, it will work like this. First, we'll  separate into teams of 3-5 people. Each team will be given a packet which will include photos of 30 interesting things to see in Little Tokyo, some very obvious, some not so obvious. Every packet will have the same 30 photos. The packet will also inculde a map of the area to give a general idea of where the thing can be found. Then, each team will go out into Little Tokyo to find as many objects as they can in about an hour. At the end, the team that was able to find the most photos will win a Little Tokyo Mystery Prize Package (don't expect too much). To prove that the photos were indeed found, each team should use a digital camera or phone to take pictures of each thing to prove that they found the item. In the event of a tie, I'll come up with a fair tie-breaker.

If it turns out to be a crazy hot day or if people want to spend more time in the musuem or if people think this activity is beneath their station in life, no problem at all. Those who participate will have fun, and if people want to stay in the air conditioned museum or do their own thing, that's totally cool. We will still be meeting around 5:30pm at Spitz for dinner.

Also, if people can't make it to the museum and theh Little Tokyo Photo Scavenger Hunt Extravaganza, still come meet us for dinner and we'll be excited to see you.

Among the many things that the movie Spinal Tap has taught us is the notion that there is a fine line between clever and stupid. My internal compass told me the scavenger hunt was on the clever side of the line. Hopefully you will agree. If not, the Little Tokyo Mystery Prize Package will be mine! ALL MINE!

Lastly, if you plan on coming and have not already let me know, PLEASE let me know if you'll be there and for which parts of the event. Thank you.

I'll be out if front of the museum by 3:00pm and hang out while people show up. If you get there after 3:15 or so, we'll be inside. If you can't make it early, we'll see you for dinner at 5:30 at Spitz. If anyone needs to reach me, shoot me a PM at anytime.

If you haven't already let me know you'll be there, PLEASE r.s.v.p. so I can make sure I have the right count for the dinner reservation.
